Carrying cargo: payload capacity and accessories

All ebikes by Rad Power Bikes have a maximum weight limit that must not be exceeded to maintain safety and comfort.

The total maximum weight limit, or payload capacity, includes the weight of the rider as well as clothing, riding gear, cargo, etc.—everything but the bike itself.

An optional front rack can be added to any of our bikes. The payload capacity of the front rack is 30 lb (14 kg).

Click a heading below to see the payload capacity and cargo capabilities for each model. Note that the most authoritative source of information for weight capacity is your bike's Owner's Manual, or the instructions that came with a particular accessory.

The use of certified and approved child seating and equipment, including a rear rack, is required whenever carrying children. Never leave the bike unattended with children on the bike. Ensure children are removed from the bike before you look away or walk away from the bike, otherwise the bike could tip over and cause serious injury to your most precious cargo. Ensure that a rider and any child passenger are wearing a properly fitted and approved bicycle helmet.

It is always the user’s responsibility to ensure that cargo or a passenger loaded on an ebike does not interfere or impact the user’s ability to safely operate the ebike. Serious injury or death can occur if cargo or a passenger impacts the user’s ability to safely operate the ebike by Rad Power Bikes.

For more information and model specific recommendations and instructions, check out the Rad Power Bikes Owner's Manual sections pertaining to carrying cargo and passengers.

Carrying cargo involves additional risks, which require special attention and care to mitigate and manage. Braking, acceleration, and balancing are all significantly affected by cargo weight. Become accustomed to the braking, steering, and operational adjustments required before riding with cargo. Practice riding on a flat and open area with light cargo before attempting to carry heavier loads.

Hold onto the bike when cargo is being loaded, in place, or attached to the bike. The kickstand is not designed to be used for loading cargo.

Rad Power Bikes recommends consulting a local, certified, and reputable bike mechanic to install and adjust the child seat on your bike.
