RadRunner Caboose installation instructions

The RadRunner Caboose is designed to carry a single child of up to 100 lbs, and is compatible with all RadRunner models. The installation will differ based upon whether your rear rack has threaded mounts (RadRunner 3 Plus) or thru-bolt mount options (RadRunner 1, 2, and RadRunner Plus models). You must also install the RadRunner Passenger Package (sold separately) for use with the Caboose.

Tools needed:

  • 4 mm Allen wrench
  • 5 mm Allen wrench
  • Torque wrench with Allen bits
  1. Get the ebike ready for maintenance. Turn off the ebike, remove the battery, and press the Power button on the remote to discharge any remaining power.
  2. Remove the Caboose base and body from the box for assembly.
    1. Unfold the Caboose legs and position above the base for assembly.

    2. Insert the legs in the corresponding base openings and pass an 18 mm bolt with split washer, flat washer and spacer through each leg to connect to the body.
    3. Use a 5 mm Allen wrench to secure each bolt.
    4. Use a torque wrench to torque each bolt to 6 Nm.
    5. Use a 5 mm Allen wrench to tighten the two guardrail bolts on the passenger’s right side, and then torque to 6-8 Nm. Once both bolts are tightened and the guardrail is secure, install the end caps on the bar ends.
  3. Remove the passenger seat, passenger bars and any other accessories currently installed on the rear rack.
  4. Install the Caboose on models with threaded mounts (RadRunner 3 Plus)
    1. Position the Caboose so that the cross bars are aligned with the threaded mounts on the middle position of the rear rack cross bars.

    2. Pass a 15 mm bolt with split washer and flat washer through the Caboose cross bars and thread into the threaded mounting point by hand. Repeat the process with the other three bolts.
    3. Use a 4 mm Allen wrench to tighten all the bolts until secure.
    4. Use a torque wrench to torque the bolts to 4 Nm.
    5. Position the seat on the rack so that the down bolt fits inside of the mounting window.

    6. Position the mounting bracket on the underside of the rack over the bolt end and hold in place against the mounting window cross bars.
    7. Thread the hand knob onto the bolt end and turn in a counter clockwise motion until tight, but do not overtighten.
  5. Install the Caboose on models with thru-bolt mounts (RadRunner 1, 2 and RadRunner Plus models)
    1. Position the Caboose so that the cross bars are aligned with the thru-bolt openings on the outside bars of the rear rack.

    2. Pass a 45 mm bolt with split washer and flat washer through the underside of the rack, through the Caboose cross bar opening and thread into the passenger seat mounting point by hand. Repeat the process with the other three bolts.
    3. Use a 5 mm Allen wrench to tighten all the bolts until secure.
    4. Use a torque wrench to torque the bolts to 6 Nm.
  6. Secure the Caboose gate. The Caboose is designed so that the gate can be opened for easy loading of a child onto the passenger seat, and then closed and secured with the quick release lever.
    1. Close the gate by setting it in the frame cradle, and then hook the adjustment screw into the cradle opening.
    2. Tighten the adjustment screw by hand and then close the quick release lever to secure the gate. Repeat the process until the quick release lever is securely tightened, but not so tight that it is difficult to open.
  7. Reinstall the battery, test the ebike fully, and Ride Rad!
